Threats of a Lunatic

Homicidal Manic Promises to Kill Gov. Warner and Blow Up A State Asylum

Lansing, Mich. Feb 14; The lives of Governor Warner and Judge Durfee of Detroit, and the wrecking of the eastern Michigan Asylum at Pontiac was threatened by George McKay, once inmate of that institution, who broke the irion sash to his window on Jun 23 1904 and escaped. The matter becomes public through Mckay's recent recapture and the request of Dr. Christian, medical superintendent of the asylum for the criminal insane at Ionia, because of his homicidal tendencies. His transfer has been ordered by Governor Warner.
A threatening letter to Governor Warner was written on Jan 18 from Chicago in whic McKay says: "By the gods, if I am not restored to my senses, I will kill you and some of you so-called doctors." McKay added that he was on his way back to the asylum to wreck it. His letter to Judge Durfee was written the same day and asks for an appointment the Monday following, warning the judge that if he attempted any funny work" that he would kill him.
