Pontiac, Mich.- July 22, A charge of purjury has been preferred against Harry Brown, 23, a cook in a local restaurant, who has been arrested following the detention of his wife, Catherine Lewis Brown, aged 13 ,who says that she and the man told the county clerk she was 17 years old when they obtained a marriage license four weeks ago. The child is held as a juvenile delinquent, having been discovered on the streets with another girl and two men, by the police.
The man, who has not been living with the girl for a couple of weeks, is said by the officers, to have addmitted that he has a wife and children in Kalamazoo, and a charge of bigomy may be preferred against him.
The names of 16 men who were implicated in the story of sordid living, told by the girl-wife, have been obtained by the officers, and arrest may follow. The parents, who are proprietors of a rooming house here, are to be questioned concerning their share in the matter. The written consent of the mother to the marriage has been filed with the county clerk.
An effort to annul the marriage can be sent to the Industrial Home for Girls.
