Jacob Snyder
The subject of this sketch is a fourth member of the Snyder family, and was born in Warren County, New Jersey, September 18, 1820. Come into Michigan a boy, in 1833, he had a little opportunity to attend school, but received what education he possesses at home, while attending to work on the farm. On 15 June, 1848, he was united in matrimony with Mary Elizabeth, the daughter of Peter Dodder, of Addison. This lady is a native of Sussex County, New Jersey, where she was born January 17, 1829. By this marriage were born under them seven children: Henry H., Who died at the age of seventeen, in the Army; Margaret Ann, who married Jerome F. Arnold, Oscar, Jacob Jr., Sarah E., George, Almira, and Ella M. immediately after his marriage Mr. Schneider moved on his land on the southwest quarter of section 18, which was at that time comparatively new, and commenced at once to rear him a home. After years of hard work and close application to his farming interests he has succeeded in making a very fine farm, with good buildings, as will be seen in the illustrations in this work. Having always been a farmer, Mr. Snyder pursues that avocation with system and skill, and has demonstrated by his own success that is a profitable as well as the most honorable pursuit, and that the percepts and practices otherwise father are the richest legacies which can be bequeathed to dutiful, prudent sons.
