William Aitchison, M. D.

William Aitchison, M.D.; A successful position businessman in Ortonville, he was born in Paris, Canada, April 18, 1846. His father, William, was born in Scotland, and came to Canada in 1840. He filed the trade of a tailor until about 1850, and then began farming. He is now man of seventy years, and resides at Seaforth, Canada. His wife, Jane, was born near the city of Glasgow, Scotland, and died in 1884. They were both honest and consistent members of the Presbyterian Church and were the parents of three children.

Dr. Aitchison was the only son of his parents. He received a common school education, and in 1867 entered the Collegiate Institute in Galt, Ontario. He spent two years in his school working his way by his unaided efforts. 1869 he enrolled in the University at Toronto, before taking a step he had taught for some five years, and he continued later to teach. In 1871 he entered the medical department of the Michigan University at Ann Arbor, and graduated from there in 1873.

Ortonville was a spot which the young doctor chose as his field labors, and he has remained there are almost continually since he took his diploma. He has built up an extensive and lucrative practice in is made from solve a splendid reputation. Some usually difficult cases of surgery which he conducted successfully have added materially to his repute. His marriage in 1875 Isabel Murdie, was an event of great importance in the life of the young man. This lady was born in Seaforth, Canada in 1854, and is the daughter of Andrew and Mary Murdie, both natives of Scotland, who came to Canada about the year 1840. The mother is still living, but the father and it is days in 1890.

Dr. Aitchison was independent and politics up to 1844, the sense that time has been an herbalist Prohibitionist, and take an active part in the political movement. In 1888 years attended for County Clerk. For sixteen years he has been identified with the Masonic order, and is a member of the Knights of the Maccabees. His wife is active in the Methodist Episcopal Church. During the past nine years that Doctor has had considerable dealing in real estate and Tuscola County, handling firearms mainly. When he came to Ortonville, is purse and assets amounted to $2.50 and his success in life has been great if he has risen by his own unaided efforts.
